Women in Liberia have over the years faced serious marginalization both politically and socially. This is evidenced by the acceptance of women participation in the country’s electoral processes either by voting or contestation in 1985.
With the climax of the International Women Colloquium, it is hoped that the looming wave of teenage pregnancy, prostitution, rape etc will muster the courage of world leaders to aid in addressing these challenges.
High profile participants making opening remarks on the first day were the First Vice President of Spain, Maria Teresa Fernandez, Prime Minister Luisa Dias Diago of Mozambique, Governor Genera Michaëlle Jean of Canada and Vice President Aja Isatou Njie Saidy of the Gambia.

Hi Varney,
It’s great that you wrote about the colloquium because I wasn’t able to find much information about it elsewhere. I heard that some of the people who live in the area where the conference took place had to leave their homes. Is this true?

Thanks David for the comments. Indeed they left their homes in order to host the colloquium’s guests.
